The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) reported a deadly attack on a patrol clearing explosive munitions in the village of Ghanduriyah, resulting in the death of a French soldier and the injury of three others. UNIFIL condemned the attack, describing it as being carried out by "non-state actors," a term used to refer to Hezbollah, a terrorist group supported by Iran. French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed that the attack was carried out by Hezbollah and expressed condolences. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun promised to prosecute those responsible. The incident occurs in a delicate context, in which Israel has suspended attacks on Hezbollah at the request of American President Donald Trump, in an attempt to mediate negotiations between Israel and Lebanon. Additionally, Iran has threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz, further complicating the regional situation. UNIFIL has launched an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the attack.
