Julia Klöckner, president of the Bundestag and an important member of the CDU, is said to have been the target of a cyber attack aimed at users of the Signal messaging app. According to an investigation published by Der Spiegel, German intelligence services suspect Russia of being responsible for these attacks, in the context of the intensification of hybrid warfare in Europe. Klöckner, a close associate of Chancellor Friedrich Merz, is part of the party leadership, and discussion groups on Signal are used for internal communication. Although her spokesperson did not confirm the incident, BfV, Germany's domestic intelligence service, informed the chancellor about the situation, confirming that his phone was not compromised. Authorities are warning of a wave of phishing attacks targeting German parliamentarians, emphasizing that many Signal groups in the parliamentary sphere could be monitored by attackers. Recently, similar attacks have also targeted institutions in Ukraine and NATO countries, including Romania, with the aim of obtaining sensitive data.
