The incident occurred last week when the boat was intercepted by the Cuban Coast Guard, resulting in a shootout in which four people were killed and another six injured. The Cuban Ministry of the Interior stated that the Cuban exiles opened fire on a patrol vessel, intending to target military units on the island. Cuban authorities specified that the boat was carrying 14 rifles, 11 handguns, and nearly 13,000 cartridges. The six survivors were arrested, and if convicted, they face prison sentences of up to 30 years or even the death penalty for the more serious offenses. The incident comes amid rising tensions between Cuba and the U.S., which have suspended all oil deliveries to the island. Political leaders in the U.S. have called for independent investigations, expressing skepticism towards the Cuban version of events.
