The authorities in Croatia have confirmed a recent case of imported leprosy, affecting a foreign worker from Nepal. The patient received immediate antibiotic treatment, and all close contacts have been identified and included in a monitoring program. HZJZ has ensured that there are no risks to public health, as leprosy is not easily transmissible and requires prolonged contact with an untreated infected person.

The Ministry of Health has stated that the healthcare system is prepared for any epidemiological situation, and indigenous cases of leprosy have not been reported for decades in Croatia. Following this incident, the authorities are preparing stricter medical screening rules for foreign workers, including more detailed checks for those coming from countries with different epidemiological profiles.
