The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) announces the creation of an armed security force, called the 'Mining Guard', to protect mining sites and secure supply chains. This initiative, supported by the United States and the United Arab Emirates, will cost 100 million dollars and will include up to 20,000 soldiers by 2028. This effort comes in the context of an economic and security agreement signed with the US, aimed at diversifying sources of critical minerals and reducing dependence on China. Although progress in implementing mining agreements has been slow due to conflicts in the eastern part of the country, the new unit will have the role of cleaning up the mining sector from improper practices. Recruits will undergo a six-month training program and will ensure security in the 22 mining provinces. This initiative is essential for stimulating investments in the mining sector of the DRC, considering the increased interest of international investors.
