The messages exchanged by Araghchi and Witkoff reportedly focused on ending the war, although American officials emphasize that they are not currently engaged in discussions with Iran.

President Donald Trump confirmed that Iran has communicated with the U.S., but expressed uncertainties regarding the authority of the Iranian officials involved in the negotiations. Trump also mentioned that it is unclear who makes decisions in Iran, considering the absence of the Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei.
