On Wednesday morning, two four-story buildings collapsed in the Al Moustakbal neighborhood of Fez, Morocco, resulting in the death of at least 19 people and injuring another 16. Local authorities have begun searches to find any survivors under the rubble.

This tragedy comes shortly after a wave of protests among Moroccans, who expressed dissatisfaction with the deterioration of living conditions and government investments in sports infrastructure, to the detriment of essential public services. Protesters have called for urgent reforms in the areas of health, education, and social protection, in the context of overcrowded and underfunded hospitals.
