On Thursday, in Iran, three people lost their lives in clashes between protesters and security forces, marking the first casualties since the beginning of the protests against the rising cost of living. The movement began on Sunday in Tehran, with merchants closing their shops to protest against hyperinflation and the depreciation of the currency. The clashes spread to medium-sized cities, with protesters throwing stones at administrative buildings. Authorities acknowledged the "legitimate demands" of the protesters, but the judiciary warned against any attempt to turn the movement into an instrument of insecurity.
