Recent satellite images indicate major changes at the nuclear facilities in Sichuan, especially at the Site 906 complex, associated with China's military nuclear program.

This has been significantly expanded, including a massive dome-shaped structure equipped with radiation monitoring systems, suggesting the handling of radioactive materials. The expansion of nuclear infrastructure has had a direct impact on the local population, with evacuations and demolitions of villages, justified by authorities as a "state secret."

This expansion is part of a broader campaign to modernize China's nuclear arsenal, which, although still below that of the US and Russia, is considered by the Pentagon to have the fastest growth. A more powerful nuclear arsenal is seen as part of Beijing's strategy to strengthen global influence and deter rivals, especially in the context of tensions with Taiwan.

This increase fuels fears of a new nuclear arms race, involving three major nuclear powers: the US, Russia, and China.

Analysts warn that misperceptions can lead to exaggerated reactions, and Beijing is unlikely to accept strict arms control agreements in the near future.
