China has announced the opening of a third extension of flight route M503, located close to an unofficial median line in the Taiwan Strait. Taipei reacted, calling the move unilateral and an attempt to change the status quo. The opening comes ahead of Taiwan's annual military exercises, which simulate a Chinese invasion. Although China claims the expansion will improve operational efficiency, Taiwan disputes the justification, given that the number of international travelers has not returned to pre-pandemic levels.
