China has significantly accelerated the production of nuclear-powered submarines, launching 10 units between 2021 and 2025, compared to 7 submarines from the USA. This dynamic, highlighted by a report from the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), threatens to erode the naval advantage that the United States has held for decades. Additionally, the tonnage of Chinese submarines has reached 79,000 tons, compared to 55,500 tons for the USA.
Although China has a smaller number of active submarines (12), the rapid expansion of its fleet, including ballistic missile submarines, is supported by the modernization of the Huludao shipyard. In contrast, the American Navy is facing delays in submarine construction, delivering on average only 1.1-1.2 units annually. This development represents a strategic challenge for the USA, considering the importance of nuclear submarines in maintaining the balance of power in the Indo-Pacific.
