The Chernobyl nuclear power plant, the site of the worst civil nuclear disaster, has been left without external electricity supply due to the intensification of military actions in Ukraine. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) announced that several essential substations for nuclear safety have been affected, and the power lines to other nuclear plants in Ukraine have also been compromised.
On the same day, Russia launched a combined attack with drones and missiles on Ukraine, leaving thousands of buildings in Kyiv without electricity and heat in extremely low temperatures, down to minus 14 degrees Celsius. President Volodymyr Zelensky mentioned that some of the missiles used in the attack were recently produced, highlighting the severity of the situation. Almost half of the residential buildings in the capital have been affected by the nighttime attacks.
