Cătălin Predoiu had a meeting with his Greek counterpart to discuss the management of migration and the security of the EU's external borders, highlighting Romania's progress in reducing illegal migration.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs, Cătălin Predoiu, had a bilateral meeting on Friday with his Greek counterpart, Athanasios Plevris, focused on strengthening cooperation in the field of internal affairs, particularly on managing migration and the security of the external borders of the European Union. Predoiu emphasized the importance of the partnership with Greece and presented Romania's results in reducing illegal migration, with a 74% decrease in 2024 compared to 2022. These advances have been achieved through strengthening the Border Police and cooperation with the Frontex Agency.

The Romanian minister highlighted the commitment to a balanced approach between security and humanitarian responsibility, promoting measures against human trafficking and supporting the integration of legal migrants. The need to simplify the procedures for identifying migrants upon entry into the EU was also discussed. Predoiu mentioned the importance of cooperation with the Western Balkan states to prevent illegal migration.

Greek Minister Plevris reported a 44% decrease in illegal migration in Greece, due to collaboration with Turkey and stricter regulations. He also emphasized the efforts to integrate refugees through language training programs and vocational training.
