The Chinese tech giant ByteDance, which owns TikTok, is expanding its presence in Latin America through a major investment of 37 billion dollars in the development of a data center in Ceará, Brazil. The project will be carried out in collaboration with local partners, including the firm Omnia and Casa dos Ventos, a renewable energy provider. Mónica Guise, responsible for public policy at TikTok Brazil, emphasized the company's commitment to sustainability, mentioning that the infrastructure will operate exclusively on wind energy. The President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, highlighted the strategic importance of this project, suggesting that it could serve as a model for other tech centers in the country.
The investment is considered a strategic move for ByteDance, given the increasing consumption of video content in Brazil and the support of the local administration for technology and renewable energy. This represents one of the most significant investments in digital infrastructure in Brazil, reflecting the company's growing interest in the Latin American market.
