Bulgaria has announced that it will support the European Union's plan to stop imports of Russian gas by the end of 2027, according to statements from Bulgarian officials. This measure will affect supplies through pipelines to Hungary and Slovakia, which rely heavily on Russian gas. Although these countries have expressed concerns about energy security, experts suggest that they can find alternatives through imports of liquefied natural gas. Bulgaria is collaborating with neighbors to organize regional auctions for American LNG, in an attempt to reduce dependence on Russian gas.
