Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan stated that his government will resume the reform project for judges' pensions as soon as the Constitutional Court (CCR) justifies its decision of unconstitutionality. Bolojan emphasized that this project is essential for the legitimacy of the government and for the financial stability of the country, considering that Romania is facing a budget crisis and a perception of privileges among judges. He criticized early retirements, mentioning that in Europe judges retire at 65 years old, while in Romania at 48-50 years, which is unsustainable.

Bolojan explained that the CCR rejected the project on procedural grounds, but stated that the government will comply with the deadline set by the CCR to obtain a consultative opinion from the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM). The project provides for a gradual increase in the retirement age for judges to 65 years and limits pensions to 70% of the last net salary. The Prime Minister reaffirmed the government's commitment to continue this reform, considering it a "cornerstone" for other necessary reforms in society.
