On June 20, 2025, Bulgaria reached an all-time record when solar power generation exceeded national electricity consumption between 10:00 and 11:00 AM, generating 2,935 MW compared to a consumption of 2,917 MW. In the following hour, generation increased to 3,230 MW, exceeding consumption by 313 MW. Although solar power was not fully directed to domestic consumers due to long-term contracts with large generators, this event marks a significant step forward for Bulgaria's renewable energy and decarbonization ambitions.
