The British Prime Minister Keir Starmer signed on Monday, in Ankara, a deal worth 8 billion pounds for the delivery of 20 Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft to Turkey. Starmer stated that this agreement represents a victory for British workers and for the defense industry of the United Kingdom, while also emphasizing that it will strengthen NATO's security. The agreement was preceded by a memorandum of understanding signed in July by the British Defense Minister, John Healey, with his Turkish counterpart.
Turkey, which had previously favored the F-35 aircraft, intends to purchase 40 Eurofighter Typhoon, and 37% of the production will be carried out in the United Kingdom. Additionally, Germany has lifted its initial veto against the sale of these aircraft to Turkey, and the German Chancellor will meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for further discussions.
