The British armed forces have located and monitored for a month three Russian submarines that were spying on cables in the North Atlantic, according to statements by British Defense Minister John Healey. In a press conference, Healey emphasized that the operation was carried out to deter malicious activities of Russian submarines, with the support of allies, including Norway.
He sent a direct message to Russian President Vladimir Putin, stating that any attempt to damage underwater infrastructure will not be tolerated and will have serious consequences. Healey confirmed that the Russian submarines left British waters and headed north, with no signs of damage to the underwater cables. The operation involved an Akula-class attack submarine and two specialized submarines from the Main Directorate for Deep-Sea Research (GUGI) in Moscow.
