The black box of the cargo plane that crashed in Miami has been recovered. NTSB investigators are analyzing the tragedy that claimed five lives

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) recovered on Monday the flight recorders of the Boeing 767-300 cargo plane that veered off the runway while landing at Miami International Airport. The accident, which occurred on Sunday, left five people dead and five injured.

The aircraft, leased by Amazon and operated by 21 Air, breached an airport barrier, struck an SUV on a roadway and a van transporting employees of a cleaning company. The plane continued taxiing through a grassy area, where it struck another barrier, near a space where autonomous Tesla taxis were parked. The aircraft overshot the airport’s paved surface by approximately 400 meters.

NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy said that the flight data and cockpit voice recorders are to be transported to the agency’s headquarters for examination and downloading on Tuesday. Investigators will check the plane’s speed upon landing and interview the crew, as well as the pilots of aircraft that used the same runway before the accident.

The investigation continues as the accident caused major disruptions at Miami airport, with dozens of flights canceled and hundreds delayed.
