Bethlehem has resumed the lighting of the Christmas tree, marking the return of festivities after two years of restrictions due to the war in Gaza.

Mayor Maher Canawati emphasized the importance of this gesture, although he acknowledged the controversies generated by the ongoing suffering in Gaza. The local community, affected by the decline in tourism, expresses its joy in celebrating Christmas, considering it a light of hope. The neighboring towns, Beit Jala and Beit Sahour, also plan to light Christmas trees. Although hotels have started to receive bookings, the effects of the war continue to be felt, with rising unemployment and economic difficulties for many Palestinians. Despite the challenges, the residents of Bethlehem pray for peace and hope for a return of tourists to the city considered the birthplace of Jesus.
