British singer Boy George was received Monday in Jerusalem by Israel’s president, Isaac Herzog, during the artist’s visit for two concerts scheduled in Tel Aviv. Herzog called the former Culture Club frontman “a formidable friend.”
The artist, known for his public support for Israel, replied in Hebrew: “People of Israel, we will dance again!”, a slogan associated with the attack carried out by Hamas on October 7, 2023. On July 26, Boy George released the song “We Will Dance Again,” inspired by survivors of the massacre at the Nova festival, where more than 360 people were killed.
The song, which supports Israel’s position in the conflict, drew criticism and contributed to the artist’s withdrawal from a show scheduled in London in August. On Tuesday, Boy George is expected to visit the site of the attack at the Nova festival.
According to AFP, the October 7 attack caused the deaths of 1,221 people in Israel. Israel’s military campaign in the Gaza Strip has resulted in more than 74,500 deaths, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, whose figures are considered credible by the UN.
