Order no. 599 of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus imposes severe restrictions on international transport, affecting Polish trailers, semi-trailers, and cars. The only exceptions are for the transport of mail, medicines, animals, and humanitarian goods.
This measure was adopted in response to actions deemed unfriendly by Western countries, in the context of the partial reopening of border crossing points by Poland and Lithuania. Lithuanian carriers warn that the restrictions could lead to significant economic losses, estimating a decrease of about one billion euros in annual revenues.
Additionally, Lithuania has further restricted traffic at certain border points, affecting tens of thousands of passengers and flights. The current conflict is part of a series of tensions between Poland, Lithuania, and Belarus, with repeated closures of border crossing points. Rail transport remains the only viable commercial option between Poland and Belarus, but only for goods.
