BBC apologized to President Donald Trump for an episode of the Panorama show, in which his speech from January 6, 2021, was edited, giving the misleading impression that he made a direct call to violence. The corporation stated that it will not air the program and acknowledged that the editing created confusion. Trump's lawyers are threatening a $1 billion lawsuit, demanding the retraction of the statements and damages.

BBC explained that the editing was not intended to mislead and presented arguments to dismiss the defamation claims. A second similarly edited clip was also revealed, leading to further criticism. BBC emphasized that it maintains high editorial standards and is investigating the issue.
