Bashar al-Assad, the former president of Syria, was hospitalized on September 20 in a hospital near Moscow, after an attempted poisoning. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, he was the victim of poisoning, not just a simple food poisoning. After nine days of hospitalization, al-Assad was discharged and is in stable condition. The poisoning attempt is said to have been planned by a former Syrian officer, but Russian authorities deny any involvement. Al-Assad is now under even stricter protection at his villa. This is not the first assassination attempt against him.
