Garry Kasparov claims that he and Ivan Tyutrin, co-founder of the Free Russia Forum, were targeted by a network accused by U.S. authorities of preparing assassinations in the United States and Europe. The former world chess champion says that security services in the U.S. and Lithuania warned them that their lives were in danger.
The statement comes after the U.S. Department of Justice indicted five alleged agents involved in assassination plots and the financing of attacks. According to investigators, in the summer of 2026, the group allegedly attempted to kill a prominent Russian dissident on U.S. soil. The target’s identity has not been officially disclosed, but Kasparov considers it highly likely that he is the person mentioned in the indictment.
The suspects include a former colonel in the Russian intelligence services, his son, identified as an FSB officer, as well as three citizens of Cuba and Venezuela. All are wanted by U.S. authorities.
Kasparov said that he will not stop and will not go into hiding, continuing to support Ukraine and the opposition to Vladimir Putin. The Free Russia Forum, founded in 2016, was placed by Moscow on the list of entities considered terrorist.
