Former Belgian footballer Jan Vertonghen, the record holder for appearances for the Belgian national team, will face legendary Russian chess player Garry Kasparov on October 21 at the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp. The event is part of the Belgian initiative Your Next Move, which aims to bring chess closer to young audiences and make it more accessible.
Vertonghen will be among the participants in a simultaneous exhibition. In this format, Kasparov will play against several opponents at the same time, including talented young people from Belgium, as well as representatives of the business and political worlds.
The event will be broadcast live on the Proximus Showcase channel. Kasparov’s visit to Belgium will also be featured in an exclusive documentary entitled “Garry Kasparov: One Move Ahead,” scheduled for November 5 on Proximus Showcase and Pickx+.
At the age of 22, Kasparov became the youngest world champion in chess history and is considered one of the most important figures in the sport.
