The Port of Barcelona will reduce the number of passenger terminals from 7 to 5 by 2030 to curb excessive tourism and reduce the impact on the city.

The Barcelona authorities have decided to reduce the capacity of the cruise port, cutting the number of terminals from seven to five, which will reduce the maximum number of passengers from 37,000 to 31,000. This measure comes in response to the significant increase in the number of tourists and to combat the effects of overtourism. Mayor Jaume Collboni stressed the importance of setting limits on cruises while encouraging tourists to stay longer in the city. Modernization of the port will include connecting ships to the local electricity grid to reduce emissions.
