Vibrio bacteria, associated with severe infections, has led to the closure of several beaches in Spain, causing concern among tourists heading to the coast.

This bacterium, favored by climate change, thrives in warm and polluted marine waters, increasing the risk of infections, especially during the summer. According to the European Food Safety Authority, Vibrio can cause anything from gastroenteritis to fatal infections, and the risk is amplified by high water temperatures.

The Mediterranean Sea, considered one of the most vulnerable regions to global warming, becomes an example of the impact of climate change on public health and the economy. The closure of beaches severely affects tourism, an essential sector for local economies.

Experts emphasize the need for international cooperation to address these emerging issues, warning that Vibrio bacteria is a symptom of ecological imbalance in the marine environment.
