At the Munich Security Conference, the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, stated that Russia's repeated attacks on Ukraine deliberately targeted Azerbaijan's diplomatic mission in Kyiv, including three attacks on its embassy.
Aliyev emphasized that, although he initially considered the first attack to be an accident, two additional attacks occurred later, demonstrating a hostile intent from Russia. He also mentioned the damage to Azerbaijan's energy infrastructure, particularly the SOCAR facilities affected by Russian bombings.
The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs reacted by summoning the Russian ambassador and sending diplomatic notes. Russia denied the intention to attack Azerbaijani diplomatic representatives, attributing the damages to malfunctions of Ukrainian air defense systems. After the third incident, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed regret over the damage caused to the embassy.
