Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen has appointed Chancellor Karl Nehammer to form a coalition government.

Van der Bellen announced that he is asking Karl Nehammer, whose party came in second place, to hold coalition talks with the Social Democrats, as no party is willing to govern with Freedom Party leader Herbert Kickl. The President stressed that any party needs a partner to achieve a stable majority.
