After an 11-year process, the Austrian judiciary has decided that the extradition of Ukrainian oligarch Dmitro Firtash to the United States is inadmissible, rejecting the prosecutor's appeal. Firtash, wanted for embezzling nearly 500 million dollars from Ukraine's gas system, has been accused of corruption and bribery in the U.S. Although Vienna initially refused extradition in 2015, the decision was reviewed in 2017, but was later annulled in 2023. Firtash, who denies the allegations, has been in Austria since 2014, where he holds assets, and has been sanctioned by Ukraine and the United Kingdom for illegal activities. His wealth is estimated at 1.7 billion dollars.
