Ukrainian journalist Mykhailo Tkach was released in Vienna after being detained on suspicion of espionage. However, the cameraman accompanying him remains in custody, according to information published by his newsroom.

The journalist’s detention prompted diplomatic reactions and criticism from his colleagues. Tkach’s newsroom challenged the situation and called for clarification regarding the reasons why he and his cameraman were stopped by Austrian authorities.

The release of Mykhailo Tkach is the main development in the case, but the investigation is not over. His cameraman remains in custody, while the circumstances of the detention and the suspicions raised by the authorities have not been detailed publicly.

The case has drawn attention amid the sensitive context of regional security and the activities of Ukrainian journalists abroad. Pending further official information, it is unclear when the cameraman will be questioned or whether charges will be brought against either of the two.
