In March 2024, British-Iranian journalist Pouria Zeraati, an employee of the Iran International organization, was attacked with a knife near his home in Wimbledon, London.

Prosecutor Duncan Atkinson stated before the Crown Court in Woolwich that the attack was a deliberate act, planned by intermediaries acting on behalf of the Iranian state. Zeraati was targeted due to the criticisms directed at the Iranian government by his employer, which has been designated a terrorist organization by the regime in Tehran.

The attackers, Nandito Badea and George Stana, deny the charges of bodily harm, while a third suspect, David Andrei, was arrested in Romania. Atkinson emphasized that Zeraati was an easy target to identify, considering that in 2022 posters were displayed in Tehran featuring journalists, including him, under the title "Wanted: Dead or Alive!".

This intimidation strategy has been used by Iran to threaten journalists abroad.
