An armed incident occurred on Saturday evening near the White House. Nasire Best, a 21-year-old man, opened fire at a checkpoint around 6:10 PM after being observed behaving strangely on 17th St. Northwest. He managed to fire several shots before being fatally shot by Secret Service agents, following a gunfight in which a bystander was seriously injured.

Steven Cheung, the White House communications director, mentioned that President Donald Trump was in the Oval Office, continuing to work on the Iran dossier, and was not affected by the incident.

According to reports, Best, known for his mental health issues, had a history of interactions with the Secret Service, including violating a court order to stay away from the White House.

The FBI intervened to assist the Secret Service in managing the incident.

Journalists on the scene were horrified by the sound of gunfire, and the White House was quickly locked down.

Best had previously been involuntarily committed and arrested for trespassing, claiming to be Jesus Christ. The incident sparked condemnation of political violence from political leaders.
