The armed incident at the Correspondents' Dinner, which took place on Saturday evening, involved a suspect staying at the Washington Hilton hotel. Jeffery Carroll, the acting chief of the Metropolitan Police Department, stated that the suspect, identified as Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old from California, was a guest at the hotel.
He was armed with a hunting rifle, a handgun, and several knives when he attempted to pass through a Secret Service checkpoint. During the confrontation, Secret Service agents intercepted him, and there was an exchange of gunfire between them and the suspect.
Allen will appear in court on Monday, facing charges of using a firearm in the commission of a violent crime and assaulting a federal agent with a dangerous weapon, according to the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, Jeanine Pirro.
The police believe that the suspect acted alone.
