The former mayor of Manchester is set to become the Prime Minister of Great Britain, after being elected leader of the Labour Party without any opposition, following the resignation of Sir Keir Starmer. Burnham received 379 out of 403 nominations, making it impossible for other candidates to participate. Burnham's official confirmation as leader of the Labour Party will take place on July 17, where he is expected to declare that he will be "without shame Labour."

On July 20, Burnham will become Prime Minister, meeting with King Charles to form a new government. This rapid change in leadership was prompted by the significant losses suffered by the Labour Party in the local elections in May, which led to a crisis of confidence among members. Burnham returned to Parliament after winning a seat in Makerfield, and Starmer's resignation triggered a competition for the party leadership.
