Andrej Babiš, former Prime Minister of the Czech Republic from 2017 to 2021, has returned to power leading a coalition formed by his movement, ANO, and two smaller parties: the Freedom and Direct Democracy Party and the Car Owners' Party. In the new government, ANO holds eight portfolios, including the position of Prime Minister, while the Freedom Party has four portfolios and the Car Owners' Party three. The Freedom Party proposes the expulsion of approximately 400,000 Ukrainian refugees and has a eurosceptic and anti-NATO stance, while the Car Owners' Party opposes the Green Deal.
This new government marks the end of a pro-Western coalition that supported Ukraine, and it is expected to align with the governments of Budapest and Bratislava, which oppose support for Ukraine and sanctions against Russia. Domestically, the government aims to reduce electricity prices, cancel a pension reform, and change the funding of public radio and television.
