The Bulgarian Minister of Defense, Dimitar Stoianov, announced on Saturday that two American KC-135 tanker aircraft left the Bezmer airbase in Bulgaria, almost a month after their deployment, which caused unrest in Iran.
The United States requested the temporary deployment of these aircraft based on a joint use agreement of military facilities, in the context of the conflict with Iran. At the time of the deployment, Iran accused Bulgaria of complicity in "aggression and war crimes," an accusation rejected by Sofia. The deployment, approved by the Bulgarian parliament, generated protests from residents, concerned about possible Iranian attacks.
Stoianov emphasized that all flights were training missions and that Bulgaria had no information about direct threats to its security. He dismissed speculation regarding an alleged surveillance of the base by a Russian aircraft, considering them conspiracy theories.
