Bulgaria is strengthening its defense following information that Iran may be planning attacks on American military targets in southeastern Europe, including on Bulgarian territory. Authorities in Sofia have stated that they have implemented 'all possible measures' at the Bezmer airbase, where Parliament has approved the deployment of up to eight American tanker aircraft for in-flight refueling of planes involved in operations against Iran.

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Ivan Demerdjiev, emphasized that the situation is being constantly monitored and that preventive measures will be intensified. The Financial Times reported that Iranian forces are assessing the attack on American targets in Europe, including the Bezmer base, in the context of rising tensions. Cyprus has also been mentioned as a possible target, considering a previous attack on a British airbase.
