How the first US soldiers died in the Israeli-American war against Iran (CNN sources)

The first American soldiers who died in the conflict between the USA and Iran were killed in a direct Iranian attack on an improvised operations center in a civilian port in Kuwait on Sunday morning, a source familiar with the situation told CNN .

The number of deaths from that attack in the Shuaiba port has since risen to six, the U.S. Central Command announced on Monday afternoon, after the remains of two more soldiers were recovered.

Earlier on Monday, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth stated that the attack that killed the soldiers struck a "fortified tactical operations center," but there was "one" projectile that penetrated the air defense. CNN previously reported that the event was an alleged drone attack.

The familiar source said it was a direct hit on the center of the building, which they described as a prefabricated house with office space inside. The attack came quickly and without warning or sirens to alert the troops to evacuate or enter a bunker, the source said.

Hours after the attack, fire was still smoldering in some parts of the building, the source described - the interior of the improvised operations center was blackened, and the walls were blown into the air due to the explosion, with some parts detaching from the building.

U.S. Senator from Virginia, Mark Warner, the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, stated after a briefing with Secretary of State Marco Rubio that "there is no imminent threat to the United States of America from the Iranians," although Israel is facing a serious threat from Iran, and that the U.S. is putting American soldiers at risk.

"Israel is a great ally of America. I stand firmly with Israel, but I believe that, in the future, when we talk about putting American soldiers at risk... there must be evidence of an imminent threat to American interests. I still do not believe that this standard has been met," Warner said.

American President Donald Trump stated that Iran's ballistic missile program is developing "rapidly and dramatically," which, he said, poses a threat to American forces overseas.

The Islamic Republic already had missiles capable of striking Europe and American military bases abroad and will soon have missiles capable of striking the USA, Trump said.

"An Iranian regime armed with long-range missiles and nuclear weapons would be an intolerable threat to the Middle East, but also to the American people," he said. "Our country would be threatened."

The president set a series of objectives for the war against Iran: destroying its missile capabilities, "annihilating" its Navy, preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, and ensuring that the regime cannot arm, finance, and direct terrorist armies in other countries.
