An American delegation led by CIA Director John Ratcliffe visited Havana on Thursday, where it met with officials from the Cuban Ministry of the Interior, according to a statement from the Cuban government. This visit was approved by the Cuban leadership following a request from the United States, taking place in a context of complex bilateral relations.
The Cuban government emphasized that the meeting demonstrated that Cuba does not pose a threat to the national security of the U.S. and that there are no legitimate reasons to include it on the list of states that support terrorism. Relations between the two countries have recently deteriorated, especially under the Trump administration, which imposed severe sanctions and declared Cuba an "extraordinary threat." Although the sanctions have exacerbated the economic crisis in Cuba, diplomatic dialogue continues, with recent high-level meetings between officials from both nations.
