A woman gave birth on a bus in Bologna shortly after 9:00 a.m., in the Via Saffi area, near Maggiore Hospital. Labor progressed rapidly, and the passenger was unable to reach the medical facility before giving birth.
Two female passengers and the bus driver tried to calm her and assisted her during the birth. After the baby boy was born, driver Niurka Roman offered him her scarf to protect him from the cold. The other passengers also contributed personal items and supported the mother until the medical crew arrived.
“It all happened very quickly,” Niurka Roman told the Italian press. The driver, who is originally from Cuba, has worked for the public transport company Tper for three years.
The mother and newborn were taken into the care of rescuers and transported to Maggiore Hospital. According to the Italian press, both are in good condition. Tper congratulated the driver on the way she handled the situation.
