The municipal council of Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland, has decided to rename a street that bore the name of former prince Andrew, the brother of King Charles III, due to controversies related to his connections with the sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Aaron Skinner, the councilor who initiated the measure, stated that Andrew no longer represents the values of the town. This decision was adopted unanimously and marks the first such action in the United Kingdom.
Andrew has been stripped of titles by King Charles III, and the residents of the town welcomed the decision, with some suggesting alternative names such as "Princess Catherine" or "Elizabeth II" for the new designation. Virginia Giuffre, Andrew's main accuser, detailed in her memoirs the allegations of sexual abuse, which the former prince has consistently denied.
