Prince Andrew has announced that he will renounce the title of Duke of York and his membership in the Order of the Garter, according to a statement from Buckingham Palace. This decision was made after discussions with King Charles and his family, in the context of allegations that continue to affect the reputation of the royal family. Andrew stated that these allegations distract from the work of Her Majesty and he has decided to put duty to family and country first. Although the title of duke remains technically, it will be considered inactive, and Andrew will no longer use the honors conferred.
His ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, will be known simply as Sarah, and the titles of their daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, remain unchanged. The decision comes following internal concerns regarding the reputation of the monarchy, especially in the context of allegations related to Andrew's relationship with Jeffrey Epstein and other recent scandals.
