A 5.3-magnitude earthquake struck in northern Greece near Mount Athos, with no damage reported

On Saturday, an earthquake of magnitude 5.3 was recorded in northern Greece near Mount Athos, an important Orthodox site known for its 20 ancient monasteries. The epicentre of the quake was located at a depth of 12.5 km in the sea, affecting an area northwest of Karyes, the administrative capital of Mount Athos. Local authorities have not reported any damage so far. Mount Athos has enjoyed autonomy since Byzantine times.
