An earthquake of over magnitude 5 struck eastern Turkey on Thursday morning

An earthquake with a magnitude of over 5 occurred in eastern Turkey on Thursday morning, being strongly felt in the city of Diyarbakir and the neighboring provinces of Adiyaman and Sanliurfa. The earthquake occurred at 10:40 a.m. local time, at a depth of approximately 10 kilometers, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).

The reported magnitude varies depending on the institution that monitored the event. The EMSC initially announced an earthquake of over magnitude 5, while Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) indicated a magnitude of 5.4. The Kandilli Observatory, another major seismic monitoring institution in Turkey, reported a higher value of 5.8.
