At least two people injured after a building near the Acropolis was destroyed by an explosion

A powerful explosion shook Athens’ tourist district of Plaka on Friday morning, located at the foot of the Acropolis. The blast caused an old two-story building to collapse and damaged neighboring buildings.

Firefighters rescued two women from an adjacent building, and they were taken to hospital. Local media reported that a passerby also suffered minor injuries. The area was cordoned off while emergency teams checked whether any more people were trapped under the rubble. The debris damaged several parked cars. The cause had not been confirmed, but authorities suspected a gas leak.
