Spanish authorities have identified 36 of the 69 people who died in the aftermath of the collision between two trains in the Castilla-La Mancha region. Forensic procedures are being carried out at the forensic medicine institutes in Toledo and Ciudad Real, while the identification of the victims continues.

According to El País, which cites the Data Integration Center, 36 victims were identified based on fingerprints. The identities of 27 of them were communicated to their families: 18 men and nine women. The relatives of the other nine identified people were due to be contacted.

In addition, 67 people are reported missing.

Among those missing are 14 foreign nationals from nine countries. On Friday evening, 39 people were hospitalized, including 17 in intensive care and 22 in general medicine wards.
