According to BAROMETER Informat.ro - INSCOP Research conducted between May 26-30, 2025, more than half of Romanians trust the US and the UK.

BAROMETER Informat.ro - INSCOP Research is a monthly opinion poll conducted by INSCOP Research commissioned by the news platform Informat.ro in partnership with the think-tank Strategic Thinking Group.

The Informat.ro - INSCOP ResearchBAROMETER aims to bring to public attention topics of interest to stimulate national conversations on various topics and public policies essential for Romania's present and future based on the opinion of Romanians in partnership with prestigious think tanks and academic institutions. It is an approach through which we aim to contribute to the consolidation of democracy through the use of scientific and credible tools that bring the voice of citizens to the forefront of public debate.

Methodology: Data was collected between May 26-30, 2025. Research method: questionnaire interview. Data were collected using the CATI method (telephone interviews), the simple stratified sample size was 1150 persons, representative by significant socio-demographic categories (sex, age, occupation) for the non-institutionalized population of Romania, aged 18 years and over. The maximum permissible error of the data is ± 2.9% at 95% confidence.

Remus Ștefureac - Director INSCOP Research: "For the first time in recent years, the United States of America is back at the top of the confidence in countries as a result of a balanced distribution of confidence among most categories of the population. The UK and France have been overtaken amid a significantly lower level of trust among AUR voters. Trust in the Republic of Moldova is high (40%), but also significantly lower among AUR voters (19%), a likely effect of the recent electoral context. A very strong contrast is observed in terms of trust in Russia (11% trust among the general population), but with significant differences among voters of the main parties (8% of PSD voters trust Russia, 3% of PNL voters trust Russia, 1% of USR voters trust Russia and 21% of AUR voters trust Russia).

Trust countries

The US leads the rankings of trust in countries, with 52.8% of respondents saying they trust this country quite a lot and very much. The US is followed by the UK with 52.7% quite and very much trust, France with 45.3% and Moldova with 40.7%. The ranking is continued by Hungary with 22%, Ukraine with 21.7%, China with 21.4% and Russia with 11.2%.

PSD and AUR voters and people over 60 are the categories of the population that trust the US the most. They trust the UK, France and the Republic of Moldova in particular: PNL and USR voters, highly educated people and Bucharest residents. In the case of Hungary, there are no major variations in the degree of trust according to the socio-demographic categories analyzed. PNL and USR voters, people with higher education and Bucharest residents tend to trust Ukraine more than the rest of the population. AUR voters and young people under 30 are the categories of the population that trust Russia the most.
